Osteopathy
When the human machine is out of balance, physiological balance cannot be perfect.
Osteopathy is a safe and natural approach to health care and recovery from injury. Its main emphasis is on the structural integrity of the body. Osteopaths have a highly developed sense of touch and use their hands to investigate underlying causes of pain. They carry out treatment using a variety of manipulative techniques, which may include gentle stretching of the tissues, rhythmic joint movements, or high velocity thrust techniques. Andrew Taylor, the Founder of Osteopathy, evolved the theory that all diseases and physical disorders ultimately derived from dislocations (which he called subluxations) on the vertebrae and that specific manipulations and massage – NOT DRUGS- could remedy any illness.
What it is best for
Pains, strains and other injuries: lower back (including sciatica), muscle and ligament, knee, shoulder, elbow and wrist, hip, foot and ankle.
Functional complaints: reduced joint mobility, lower back stiffness, frozen shoulder, postural problems at work causing pain and stiffness.
Also with complaints: tennis/golfers elbow, headaches, arthritis, whiplash, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome.
Osteopathic treatment uses a combination of soft tissue techniques, joint mobilization and manipulation. Treatment gentleand varies according to each individual case
Visiting an osteopath:
When you visit an osteopath for the first time a full case history will be taken and you will be given an examination.
Osteopath may also need additional investigations such as X Rays. This will allow a full diagnosis and suitable treatment plan to be developed with you.
